The hospital---s Department of Psychiatry provides
comprehensive outpatient and inpatient mental health services, addiction
treatment programs and crisis services at both hospitals; outpatient services
at several sites in Westchester County; and residential services in four
boroughs of New York City and in Westchester. The organization is --one of the
largest behavioral health services providers in New York State.--PSYCHIATRIC INPATIENT PROGRAMS29-bed Inpatient Psychiatric Unit provides a comprehensive
treatment program for adults who need hospitalization. Admission to the unit
can be voluntary or involuntary. Many patients requiring inpatient psychiatric
hospitalization are admitted through the Emergency Department, which is
available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for psychiatric evaluation. Patients
are treated by a multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, social workers, and
nurses. Group and occupational therapies and medication are provided as
appropriate.-- The Psychiatric Intermediate Length of Stay Unit provides
therapeutic and psychiatric services, including individual and group therapy,
for adult recipients.--PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY SERVICESFor patients presenting to the Emergency Department with
acute psychiatric symptoms, services include crisis intervention,
psychopharmacology and referral to appropriate outpatient or inpatient
psychiatric services. Admission to either unit can be voluntary or involuntary.
Many patients requiring inpatient psychiatric hospitalization are admitted
through the Emergency Department, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week for psychiatric evaluation.--CRISIS PREVENTION AND RESPONSE TEAMThe CPRT is an interdisciplinary mobile team of mental
health professionals (social workers, a child, and family specialist and a
psychiatrist). The Team responds to people in the community, usually visiting
them at home, although they can be seen elsewhere as well. The team also has
offices at both hospitals.--The CPRT serves any person in Westchester who is
experiencing or is at risk of, a psychological crisis, and who requires mental
health intervention. Links to other community resources and to follow up
support are provided as well. The CPRT is usually called by individuals, family
members, neighbors, friends, landlords, clergy, school personnel, police or another person (s) concerned about an individual.--CPRT staff provide a range of services including assessment,
crisis intervention, supportive counseling, information and referrals, linkage
with appropriate community based mental health services for ongoing treatment,
and follow up.--The Team---s goal is to help people avoid crises and to
prevent visits to emergency rooms. By intervening with the individual and
family, the emergency room visit or hospital admission can often be prevented.
When necessary, the team helps people access community resources that serve as
alternatives to hospitalization. When there is truly no alternative to
hospitalization, the team offers support in arranging admission.--The CPRT works with schools, law enforcement, and many
agencies in the community to prevent impending crises. The Team assists in
outreach to clients who are AOT ordered and who fail to attend outpatient
mental health treatment services. The CPRT is part of the network that responds
to disasters, offering counseling to disaster victims.--METHADONE MAINTENANCEThe Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program provides
detoxification and methadone maintenance for patients involved in long-term
opiate abuse. Eligible patients must be 18 years or older and currently
addicted to opiates. Individual and group counseling, annual physical examinations,
testing and lab work, and primary care services are provided.--Position Overview:Associate Director of Psychiatry is the site director for
one of the two hospital behavioral health departments.-- The Associate
Director time is 80% administrative duties and 20% clinical responsibilities.
The Associate Director oversees all the behavioral health services for one of
the two hospitals.-- QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:--------------------------------
Education/Experience/Abilities:-----------------------------
M.D. degree with specialty training in psychiatry.-- Current, unencumbered
licenses to practice medicine and to prescribe medications in the state of New
York.-- ---------------------------
Has at least two years of previous experience in the supervision and training of
other professional staff.---------------------------
Must be privileged through the health system privileging process.---------------------------
Ability to verbally communicate with patients and staff, and document
communications effectively.---------------------------
Knowledgeable with current psychotropic medications and side effects.---------------------------
Ability to work simple math calculations.-- ---------------------------
Staff shall demonstrate competence in gathering and interpreting information
about the mental disorders and chemical dependencies.-- ---------------------------
Shall demonstrate competence in their knowledge of the natural history of
mental disorders and chemical dependencies.---------------------------
Shall demonstrate competence in their understanding of the biopsychosocial
influences and effects of mental disorders and chemical dependencies.---------------------------
Demonstrates the ability to develop a treatment plan and summary based on
participants needs.---------------------------
Demonstrates the ability to distinguish between alcohol and other drug-related
symptoms and other pre-existing physical problems or pathologic behaviors.---------------------------
Demonstrates the ability to understand the biopsychosocial influences and effects
of dependencies.---------------------------
Demonstrates knowledge of the ways medical, emotional, behavioral, social,
educational and other interventions are used to treat individuals, couples,
families, and groups.---------------------------
Ability to make independent decisions.---------------------------
Ability to type and working knowledge/familiarity with computers and electronic
clinical record keeping.---------------------------
Must obtain a Fingerprint clearance card and pass a background check.--------------------------------
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:---------------------------
Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology---------------------------
10 years of practice experience
